About Northern Sessions
Northern Sessions brings live music out of the concert venue and onto the water.
You board Arctic Dream, our Lagoon 51 catamaran, in Tromsø and sail into the surrounding fjords while musicians from Northern Norway perform live on board.
The landscape changes outside the windows while the music unfolds only a few metres away. Between performances there is time for conversation, silence, scenery and simply being on the water.
Northern Sessions was created by Øystein Blix and Kurt Arild Larsen, bringing together decades of experience from live music and Arctic travel.
Each voyage is shaped by the musicians, the weather, the light and the route that day.
No large stage. No crowded concert hall.
Just the Arctic, the boat, the musicians — and the people sharing the journey.
The people behind the sound
The Musicians
Northern Sessions brings together musicians from Tromsø and Northern Norway, with roots in jazz, blues and other musical traditions.
A typical departure features two musicians performing two live sessions during the voyage. The musicians are close to the guests rather than separated by a stage, making each performance naturally different from a conventional concert.
Depending on the musicians performing that day, the repertoire may move between jazz, blues, bossa nova, fado and Nordic influences.
The exact line-up varies by departure and musician availability, giving each Northern Session its own musical character.
The performances are part of the voyage rather than a separate concert, leaving space between sessions for the fjords, conversation and quiet.
Each session typically features two performers presenting two live sets during the voyage.

Øystein Blix

Øystein Blix is one of the creators of Northern Sessions and brings decades of live performance experience to the project.
A trombonist with a long career in performance and live interpretation, Blix helps shape the musical direction of Northern Sessions.
On board Arctic Dream, his role is to let the music work with the setting rather than compete with it.
Thomas Ragnar Larsen

Thomas Ragnar Larsen is a guitarist with experience across jazz, blues and other musical traditions.
A long-standing guitarist with Tromsø Storband, Larsen has also contributed to projects including Barrelhouse and collaborations with Northern Norwegian artists.
His background includes jazz and blues as well as experience with Indian folk music.
Within Northern Sessions, his guitar work becomes part of the changing atmosphere on board.
Amanda Antonsen

Amanda Antonsen is a saxophonist whose playing moves easily between different musical settings.
Her performances adapt naturally to the mood and pace of each setting.
As part of Northern Sessions, her saxophone brings a distinct voice to the live sessions on board.
Dag Okstad

Dag Okstad is a guitarist whose work spans music, performing arts, artistic communication and education.
His experience across several creative disciplines informs the way he approaches live performance.
Within Northern Sessions, his guitar work is part of the close, small-scale performance setting on board.
Brit Eva Løkkemo

Britt Eva Løkkemo is a vocalist from Tromsø with a repertoire shaped by strong interpretive traditions.
Her artistic work has included interpretations of Edith Piaf, including performances of Piaf’s repertoire in Northern Norwegian translated by author and lyricist Ragnar Olsen.
Her repertoire also includes fado, adding another musical tradition to the Northern Sessions line-up.
Within Northern Sessions, her voice gives each departure a different musical character.
Terje Storvig

His performances combine technical experience with an adaptable approach to live interpretation.

Aboard Arctic Dream
Northern Sessions takes place aboard Arctic Dream, ACIN’s Lagoon 51 catamaran. The saloon, cockpit and deck areas let guests move naturally between the live music and the landscape throughout the voyage.
Live, just metres away
The musicians perform on board, close to the guests. A typical voyage includes two separate live sessions, leaving space between them for conversation, food, scenery and silence.
Seafood, simply served
Depending on the departure, we serve fresh shrimp or seafood based on the day’s catch — uncomplicated food to share while the boat moves through the fjords.
